Key takeaways

  • You can use Tally on mobile in six ways, but none of them involve installing Tally on your phone. The accounting software runs on Windows. What works on a phone is a set of companion apps, browser access and remote setups that connect to your Tally data.
  • The six ways to use Tally from a mobile device today: Tally's Docs by Ira app, AI Accountant's WhatsApp bot, TallyPrime Reports in Browser, Tally on Cloud through a TVU pack, TallyPrime Remote Access, and third-party mobile apps.
  • Viewing Tally data, working inside Tally, and interacting with your data are three different things. Reports in Browser lets you view reports on your phone but not create or edit entries. Cloud access opens the full application on a mobile device. Remote Access does not work on a phone at all, because it needs Tally installed at your end and Tally only runs on Windows. AI Accountant sits in the third category: you interact with your data rather than operating the software, and you can forward purchase bills that reach your Tally books once approved.
  • AI Accountant's Whatsapp Bot gives founders and decision-makers a simpler way to reach business information from Tally. Its WhatsApp bot answers questions about cash and bank balance, receivables, payables, sales and overall business health. You can also forward a purchase bill on WhatsApp, and AI Accountant extracts the details and creates an entry for review before it reaches your books. It is free.
  • Reports in Browser may already be available to you. It is included with an active Tally Software Services (TSS) subscription, so businesses with TSS can access their TallyPrime reports from a browser without setting up a separate mobile app.

Can you use Tally on mobile?

Yes, in six different ways.

  • Docs by Ira: Scans supplier invoices into TallyPrime from your phone.
  • AI Accountant WhatsApp bot: Answers questions about your books through WhatsApp.
  • Reports in Browser: Lets you view TallyPrime reports in a phone browser.
  • Cloud setup: Runs the full TallyPrime application through a cloud environment.
  • RDP setup: Lets you access the full TallyPrime application remotely from your phone.
  • Third-party apps: Sync your Tally data with Android and iOS devices.
  • What you cannot do is install Tally on a phone. TallyPrime is Windows desktop software. There is no Android or iOS build of it.

So "can we use Tally in mobile" has a yes answer. The useful question is narrower. Do you want to see your data, work in Tally, or get things into Tally from your phone? Those are three different jobs, and different options win each one.

The six ways to use Tally on mobile, compared

Method What it does Full Tally? Data entry Whose product
Docs by Ira (TallyIra app) Scan or upload supplier invoices into TallyPrime as drafts No Draft vouchers for approval Tally Solutions
AI Accountant WhatsApp bot Ask business questions, forward purchase bills No Bills, for approval Independent
TallyPrime Reports in Browser View and download reports in a phone browser No No Tally Solutions (TSS)
Tally on cloud (TVU pack) Run the complete TallyPrime application Yes Yes Tally licensing plus a hosting provider
TallyPrime Remote Access Record transactions and view reports remotely Yes Yes Tally Solutions (TSS)
Third-party mobile apps Synced reports, reminders, defined voucher types No Limited Independent vendors

    What each option costs

Cost is the fastest way to shorten this list, so here it is before the detail. Two of the six add nothing to what you already pay Tally, one is free outright, and three carry a real recurring cost. The table is ordered cheapest first.

    Option Cost structure
AI Accountant WhatsApp bot Free. No page limits, no top-ups, and no paid tier to upgrade to.
Reports in Browser No additional charge. Needs an active TSS, which is ₹4,500 a year plus GST for Silver and ₹13,500 a year plus GST for Gold.
Remote Access No additional charge. Same active TSS as above.
Docs by Ira Needs an active TSS and Release 7.1. You get 100 pages of import free for two months, after which you buy a top-up plan from the Tally Control Centre. Top-up rates are shown on the portal at the point of upgrade rather than published.
Tally on cloud Free TVU entitlement by licence type, extra packs purchasable, plus hosting charges from your provider.
Third-party apps Roughly ₹2,200 to ₹3,600 per device per year plus GST, depending on plan and term. Biz Analyst, Counts, CredFlow and LiveKeeping all price per device and per Tally licence.

One cost applies to all six

Every method here reads your Tally data, so every one of them assumes you already hold a TallyPrime licence. None of them is a way to use Tally without buying Tally.

A TallyPrime licence is listed at ₹22,500 plus 18 percent GST for a single user and ₹67,500 plus 18 percent GST for multi-user, as a one-time cost. The first year of TSS is included with a new licence. After that, TSS renewal runs at 20 percent of the licence price each year, which is where the ₹4,500 and ₹13,500 figures come from.

So the honest full-stack cost of checking your numbers on a phone is your Tally licence, plus TSS if you want Tally's own mobile routes, plus whatever the method itself charges.

    1. Docs by Ira: Tally's own mobile app

TallyIra is an app published by Tally Solutions on Google Play and the App Store. Its first capability, Docs by Ira, is an AI invoice processor. You scan or upload a supplier document on your phone, it extracts the details, and it creates a draft voucher in TallyPrime for you to review.

What it handles: inward documents, meaning purchase invoices, purchase orders, delivery challans, and credit and debit notes. Supported formats are PDF, JPEG, JPG and ZIP. A recent app update added bank statement upload from mobile.

What it extracts: party name, invoice number, date, amounts, GST and line items. It maps parties and items to your existing masters, creates new masters where needed, and flags duplicate invoices.

A useful detail: you can share a document into it from WhatsApp or Gmail, so a bill a supplier sends you on WhatsApp can go into the app without being saved and re-uploaded.

Nothing posts without approval. Docs by Ira creates draft vouchers only. You review and confirm before anything is saved to your books. Tally is explicit that this is by design.

What you need: a valid TallyPrime licence, an active TSS subscription, TallyPrime Release 7.1 or later, and a mobile number and email for the OTP. You register the plug-in against your Tally serial number on the Tally Solutions website, then update your licence in TallyPrime.

Two limitations worth knowing. First, availability is by eligibility and phased rollout. Tally checks your serial number, and if it is not yet eligible you go on a waitlist. Second, usage is metered. You get 100 pages of import free for two months, and when that runs out TallyPrime tells you the limit is exhausted and prompts you to upgrade your plan from the Tally Ira Services section of the Control Centre. Tally also gives 100 free pages on your first TSS renewal.

What it does not do: Docs by Ira is a document-in tool. It does not show you your ledger, your outstanding, or your cash position. It is not a way to read your books on a phone.

Best for: an accountant or owner who wants supplier bills into TallyPrime without typing them, and who is already on Release 7.1.

    2. AI Accountant's WhatsApp bot

Sometimes you do not want Tally on your phone at all. You want one number.

How much cash do I have. Who owes me money. What is due to suppliers this week. Every other option here answers those by first putting some version of Tally in front of you.

AI Accountant connects to your TallyPrime data and lets you ask in plain language over WhatsApp.

What you can ask: cash and bank balance, receivables, payables, sales, and overall business health. You type the question the way you would say it and the figure comes back in the chat, from your live Tally data.

What you can send: photograph a purchase bill or forward one you received, and the details are extracted automatically and recorded in AI Accountant under the Needs Review tab in the Purchase module, for your accountant to check and approve. Nothing enters your books without a person approving it.

It also nudges you. Activated users get proactive prompts for the tasks that keep their books up to date.

Setup: save your registered mobile number in Tally under Company Details, run Sync Masters, and send "Hi" to the bot on +91 63665 75567. It works with TallyPrime 6.0 and above. The current release supports one WhatsApp user per company, with multi-user support in the next release.

What it is not: this is not Tally on WhatsApp. You cannot pass a journal entry, run a stock valuation or file a return in a chat. If you need the software, use cloud access. If you need an answer, this is faster than opening anything.

Docs by Ira and AI Accountant both handle bills. What is the difference?

They overlap on one job and diverge everywhere else.

Feature Docs by Ira AI Accountant WhatsApp bot
Purchase bill capture from a phone Yes Yes
Where it happens Tally's own app Inside WhatsApp
Answers questions about your ledger No Yes
Cash, receivables, payables, sales on request No Yes
    Entries need approval Yes Yes
Requires TallyPrime release 7.1 or later 6.0 or later
Cost 100 free pages for two months, then paid top-ups Free, with no page limit

If bill capture is your only requirement and you are on Release 7.1, Docs by Ira is a reasonable first stop and it comes from Tally. If you also want the numbers back without opening anything, that is a different tool.

Book a demo of AI Accountant to see it answer these on your own books.

    3. TallyPrime Reports in Browser

This is the option most businesses already own and do not use.

TallyPrime Reports in Browser lets you open your Tally reports in any web browser, on any device, including a phone. The design is mobile responsive, so reports resize to the screen instead of forcing you to zoom. You can drill into a report as you would on the desktop, change the period, and download a report to share it.

What you need: a valid TallyPrime licence (Silver, Gold or Tally Server 9), an active TSS subscription, and your company connected to Tally.NET services. There is no separate purchase.

What it will not do: you cannot enter or edit anything. Browser access is view only. F12 configurations and the right-hand button bar are not available in the current release.

One thing to understand: when you open a report in the browser, it is generated by your TallyPrime installation and sent to your browser over the internet. Your office computer has to be switched on and connected. If someone shuts it down at 7pm, your phone stops showing reports at 7pm.

Best for: an owner who wants to check outstanding, stock summary, sales register or the balance sheet from a phone, and does not need to make entries.

    4. Tally on cloud

"Tally on cloud" is the most searched phrase in this space, and it means something specific under Tally's licensing.

Tally does not host your Tally in the cloud itself. It authorises virtual usage through a Tally Virtual User (TVU) pack. If you access TallyPrime through Windows RDP, Citrix, a thin client or a cloud service, you need a TVU pack for it.

How it works: TallyPrime sits on a server that is online. You connect to that server's desktop from any device using a remote desktop tool. Once connected, TallyPrime behaves exactly as it does on your own machine, because it is your machine, just elsewhere. You do not need TallyPrime installed on the phone.

What you need: a valid TallyPrime licence on the server, a TVU pack, and a hosting arrangement. Tally directs you to a Tally Partner, hardware vendor or cloud provider to set up the server. Hosting is a separate commercial arrangement from your licence.

On cost: TVU packs come with a default entitlement free for the lifetime of the licence, one pack for Silver, ten for Gold and twenty for Tally Server 9. Packs beyond that are purchasable. TVU has no dependency on TSS. What you pay separately is the hosting.

The honest limitation: you are operating a Windows desktop application through a remote session on a phone screen. It works, and many accountants do it, but Tally was built for a keyboard. For checking one number it is a heavy way to get there.

Best for: an accountant or finance team member who genuinely needs to work in Tally away from the office, mostly from a laptop, with the phone as a fallback.

    5. TallyPrime Remote Access

Remote Access is a separate TSS feature that gets confused with cloud access constantly.

It connects one TallyPrime installation to another, letting you record transactions and view reports while the data stays on your office machine.

What you need: at the office, a valid licence, active TSS, an internet connection, and the company connected to Tally.NET services. At the remote end, a TallyPrime installation and an internet connection. The remote installation can even be running in Educational Mode. Both ends must be on the same TallyPrime release.

Why this does not solve mobile: the remote end needs TallyPrime installed, and TallyPrime installs only on Windows. You cannot use Remote Access from an Android phone or an iPhone. It is a work-from-another-computer feature.

Best for: a CA or branch accountant working from a different Windows machine.

Reports in Browser vs Remote Access vs cloud

Feature Reports in Browser Remote Access Tally on Cloud (TVU)
Needs TallyPrime at your end No Yes No
Works on a phone Yes No Yes, via a remote desktop app
    Data entry No Yes Yes
Covered by TSS Yes Yes No, TVU is separate from TSS
Extra cost None beyond TSS None beyond TSS Hosting, plus packs beyond your entitlement

    6. Third-party Tally mobile apps

Several Indian companies build apps that read your Tally data and present it on Android and iOS. Biz Analyst is the best known. Counts, CredFlow and LiveKeeping are others in the category.

How they work: you install a connector on the computer running TallyPrime and add the companies you want to sync. The app then shows that data on your phone. Depending on the product and plan you can view dashboards, ledger and outstanding reports, stock and sales analysis, send payment reminders over WhatsApp, email or SMS, and create a defined set of vouchers such as sales invoices, orders and receipts that sync back to Tally.

Two things to be clear about. These are independent products, not Tally's. Biz Analyst's own app listing carries a trademark disclaimer stating it is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Tally. And they are not the full TallyPrime application on a phone. They support the reports and voucher types the developer has built, which covers a lot of daily use but not everything Tally does.

On pricing: these are subscriptions, typically per device and per Tally licence, plus GST. Published prices vary between vendor sites and partner sites, so check the current figure with the vendor.

Best for: a field sales team that needs order taking, party outstanding and collection follow-up while visiting customers. This is what the category is genuinely strongest at.

Is there an official Tally mobile app?

There is no mobile version of TallyPrime, but Tally Solutions does publish mobile apps.

Tally app What it is Useful for accessing your books?
TallyIra (Docs by Ira) AI invoice processing into TallyPrime Yes, for getting documents in
Tally Track 2.0 Lead and order management for Tally partners No, it is a partner app
TallyESS Employee self-service for leave, attendance and reimbursements No, it is an internal HR app

So the accurate statement is narrow. The accounting software itself does not run on a phone, and Tally's mobile presence is a companion app for invoice capture rather than the software.

Apps you find in the stores with Tally in the name fall into three groups: Tally's own apps above, third-party companion apps such as Biz Analyst, and training apps that teach TallyPrime and touch none of your data.

Can I download Tally for mobile?

You will see searches for "Tally ERP 9 download for mobile" and "TallyPrime download for mobile". Neither exists.

If you find an APK claiming to be TallyPrime for Android, do not install it. It is not from Tally, and your accounting data is what it would be reaching for.

What you can legitimately get without extra spend:

    • AI Accountant's WhatsApp bot, which is free.
    • Reports in Browser, at no additional cost if your TSS is active. This is the closest thing to free Tally on mobile from Tally itself.
    • Your default TVU entitlement, included for the lifetime of your licence, though hosting still costs money.
    • Free trials from third-party app vendors before subscribing.

    Which option should you choose?

Choose Docs by Ira if your problem is supplier bills piling up, you are on TallyPrime Release 7.1 with active TSS, and you want capture from Tally itself.

Choose AI Accountant's WhatsApp bot if you are the owner, you do not want to open Tally, your questions are about cash, receivables, payables and sales, and you want bills to reach your books by forwarding them.

Choose Reports in Browser if you want to check outstanding, sales or stock from your phone occasionally, your TSS is active, and your office computer is normally on. It costs nothing extra.

Choose Tally on cloud if you or your team genuinely need to work in Tally from outside the office or across locations, and you accept paying for hosting.

Choose Remote Access if the person needing access has a Windows machine, such as a CA or branch accountant. It will not help on a phone.

Choose a third-party mobile app if you have a field sales team taking orders and chasing collections at customer sites.

Choose more than one if that is what your business needs. Reports in Browser and a WhatsApp assistant solve different problems and do not conflict.

    Frequently asked questions

Can I use Tally on mobile?

Yes, in six ways: Tally's own Docs by Ira app for scanning invoices into TallyPrime, AI Accountant's WhatsApp bot for asking business questions, Reports in Browser for viewing reports in a phone browser, Tally on cloud through a TVU pack for the full application, Remote Access from another Windows machine, and third-party apps that sync your Tally data. Tally itself does not install on a phone.

Is there a Tally mobile app from Tally?

There is no mobile version of TallyPrime, but Tally Solutions does publish the TallyIra app, which carries Docs by Ira for AI invoice processing into TallyPrime. Tally's other apps, Tally Track 2.0 and TallyESS, are for Tally partners and Tally employees respectively and do not access your books.

    What is Docs by Ira?

Docs by Ira is Tally's AI-powered invoice processor, delivered as a TallyPrime plug-in and a mobile app. You scan or upload purchase invoices, purchase orders, delivery challans or credit and debit notes, and it extracts the details and creates draft vouchers in TallyPrime for your review. It supports PDF, JPEG, JPG and ZIP.

What do I need to use Docs by Ira?

A valid TallyPrime licence, an active TSS subscription, TallyPrime Release 7.1 or later, and a mobile number and email address for the OTP. You register the plug-in against your Tally serial number on the Tally Solutions website. Availability is subject to eligibility and a phased rollout, with a waitlist if your serial number is not yet eligible.

Is Docs by Ira free with TSS?

It requires an active TSS but is metered separately. You get an allowance, and when it is used up TallyPrime prompts you to upgrade your plan from the Tally Ira Services section of the Control Centre.

Can I check my cash balance or outstanding on WhatsApp?

Yes, with AI Accountant's WhatsApp bot. Message it and ask for your cash balance, bank balance, receivables, payables or sales, and the figure comes back from your live Tally data. It is free. Tally's own WhatsApp integration sends invoices and reports out to customers rather than answering questions you ask.

How do I view Tally reports on my phone?

Use TallyPrime Reports in Browser. You need a valid TallyPrime licence, an active TSS subscription, and your company connected to Tally.NET services. The design is mobile responsive, and reports can be viewed, drilled into and downloaded, but not edited.

Can I enter data in Tally from my phone?

Not through Reports in Browser, which is view only. You can if you reach the full TallyPrime application through a cloud or RDP setup, or by using a third-party app that supports the voucher types you need. You can also get purchase bills in through Docs by Ira or AI Accountant's WhatsApp bot, in both cases as drafts requiring approval.

What is the difference between Tally Remote Access and Tally on cloud?

Remote Access is a TSS feature connecting one TallyPrime installation to another, so it needs TallyPrime at both ends on the same release. Tally on cloud means running TallyPrime on a hosted or RDP server and connecting to that server's desktop, which needs a TVU pack but no TallyPrime on your device. TVU is separate from TSS.

Does TallyPrime Remote Access work on a phone?

No. It requires a TallyPrime installation at the remote end, and TallyPrime runs only on Windows. For phone access to the full application, use a cloud or RDP setup.

Is Biz Analyst an official Tally app?

No. Biz Analyst is an independent application that syncs with TallyPrime and Tally.ERP 9. Its own app listing states it is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Tally. It is well established, but it is not published by Tally Solutions.

What is the best Tally mobile app?

It depends on the job. For getting supplier bills into TallyPrime, Tally's own Docs by Ira. For an owner who wants quick answers and to send bills without installing anything new, AI Accountant's WhatsApp bot. For field sales teams, a companion app such as Biz Analyst, Counts, CredFlow or LiveKeeping. For viewing official Tally reports, Reports in Browser needs no app at all.

Can I download Tally ERP 9 or TallyPrime for mobile?

No. Neither is available as a mobile download, and any APK claiming to be TallyPrime for Android is not from Tally. Use Reports in Browser, a cloud setup, Tally's Docs by Ira app, or a legitimate companion app instead.

Can I send invoices on WhatsApp from Tally?

Yes. TSS includes WhatsApp integration from TallyPrime Release 4.0 onwards, letting you send invoices and reports to customers over WhatsApp from inside Tally. This sends documents out to others rather than answering questions you ask.

Do I need internet to use Tally on mobile?

Yes for every method. Reports in Browser, Remote Access, cloud access and Docs by Ira all work over the internet, and your office or hosted machine must be online for the first three. Some third-party apps hold synced data on the device and can show it offline, but need a connection to stay current.

Can my sales team use Tally on mobile without seeing everything?

Yes. Tally's own access is governed by Tally.NET user roles, which control who can see which reports. Third-party apps typically add their own role-based restrictions so a salesperson sees only their customers.
