Key takeaways

  • Tally WhatsApp integration comes in three forms, and they do very different things.
    • TallyPrime with WhatsApp (native): sends invoices, orders, reports and reminders out to your customers.
    • WhatsApp TDL for TallyPrime (partner add-ons): broadly the same sharing, with extra bulk options.
    • AI Accountant's WhatsApp bot: works the other way round. You ask a question in plain language and get your own business numbers back instantly, including cash and bank balance, receivables, payables, sales and overall business health. You can also upload purchase bills straight into the chat.
  • TallyPrime's native WhatsApp feature is outbound only. It shares documents and payment reminders from inside Tally, but it cannot tell you your cash balance, who owes you money, or what you sold last month. AI Accountant's WhatsApp bot covers exactly that gap: ask in plain language and the answer comes from your live Tally data, and you can forward a purchase bill into the same chat to get it into your books.
  • Tally WhatsApp charges are separate from your Tally licence. The subscription starts at ₹1,300 per year, plus a message wallet you recharge, plus 18 percent GST.

Most business owners get their numbers the same way. You call or WhatsApp your accountant, or you wait until he sends the monthly report. If he is on leave, you wait longer.

Meanwhile the data is already sitting in Tally. It just has no way of reaching you.

This article covers every way of connecting Tally to WhatsApp today, the benefit of doing it, what it costs, how to set it up, and where each option falls short.

What is Tally WhatsApp integration?

Tally WhatsApp integration is any setup that connects your TallyPrime data to WhatsApp, either to send business documents out to customers or to pull business information back to you.

The phrase covers three quite different things, and most confusion about Tally on WhatsApp comes from mixing them up.

Option What it does Direction Who it serves
TallyPrime with WhatsApp (native) Shares invoices, orders, reports, and reminders from inside Tally. Tally to customer Your customers
WhatsApp TDL add-ons from Tally partners Provides similar sharing capabilities, often with bulk sending and additional message templates. Tally to customer Your customers
AI Accountant WhatsApp bot Answers questions about your own business data and accepts bill uploads. Your data to you You, the owner

The first two are communication tools. The third is a visibility tool. If you are looking for a way to stop calling your accountant for the cash position, you want the third.

Here is what that third option actually puts in your hands:

  • Your cash and bank position, on request. Type the question, get the figure.
  • Receivables without a follow-up call. Who owes you, how much, and which invoices have crossed their due date.
  • Payables before you release money. What is due to which vendor, checked in ten seconds instead of after a phone call.
  • Sales and revenue for any period. This month, last month, or a comparison of the two.
  • Purchase bills uploaded by forwarding them. Photograph a bill in the chat and the details are extracted and recorded for review.
  • Action-oriented nudges you did not ask for. Prompts for the tasks that keep your books up to date, sent to you rather than sitting unnoticed.

All of it runs on the number you already use, from data that is already in Tally.

Why business owners want Tally data on WhatsApp

There is a strong gap between the person who owns the business and the person who owns the data.

  • You do not want to open Tally. Most owners are not accountants. Tally takes years of hands-on use to navigate comfortably, and that time went into running the business instead.
  • You are usually not at your desk. The question comes up in a meeting, at a supplier's office, or in the middle of a decision that cannot wait.
  • You do not want to depend on one person. When the accountant is on leave or has resigned, the numbers stop.
  • You have been given the wrong number before. A figure from an external CA or your own team that turned out to be off, discovered after a decision was already made on it. Once that happens, you want to see the number yourself.
  • The questions are small and frequent. How much is in the bank, who has not paid, what did we sell this month, how much revenue did we make. Each one is a two-minute answer that currently takes half a day.
  • Decisions wait for reports. Approving a purchase, releasing a payment, extending credit to a customer, all of these need a number you do not have in the moment.

AI Accountant's WhatsApp bot: how it works

AI Accountant connects to your TallyPrime data and puts a WhatsApp assistant on top of it. You message it the way you message anyone, and it answers from your live books.

There are three things it does.

1. Answers business questions in natural language. Cash and bank balance, receivables, payables, sales and overall business health. You type the question the way you would say it, and you get the number back.

2. Accepts purchase bills uploaded on WhatsApp. Photograph a bill or forward one you received, and the bill details are extracted automatically and recorded in AI Accountant under the Needs Review tab in the Purchase module, for your accountant to check and approve. Nothing enters your books without a human approving it.

3. Sends proactive, action-oriented nudges. Activated users receive prompts for the tasks that keep their books up to date, so pending work comes to you rather than waiting to be discovered.

All three run on live data. Answers come from your AI Accountant dashboard, which stays in sync with Tally, not from a monthly export.

Setting up AI Accountant's WhatsApp bot

Setup takes three steps and no TDL.

Step What you do
1 Save your registered mobile number in Tally under Company Details.
2 Run Sync Masters so your data is available to AI Accountant.
3 Send "Hi" to the AI Accountant WhatsApp bot on +91 63665 75567.

That is the whole activation. You do not need a separate WhatsApp Business account, a Tally Partner visit, or a message wallet.

One prerequisite worth checking first: AI Accountant is built for TallyPrime 6.0 and above. If you are on an older release, you will need to upgrade before this works.

What questions can you ask?

What you want to know What you type
Cash position What is my cash balance today?
Bank position What is my bank balance?
Receivables Who owes me money?
Overdue receivables Which invoices are overdue?
Total outstanding How much outstanding is pending?
Payables Which vendors do I need to pay?
Sales performance What were my sales last month?
Sales trend Compare this month's sales with last month.
Revenue How much revenue did we make this month?
Purchases Show me my purchase summary.
Vendor detail How much do I owe [vendor name]?
Overall health How is my business doing this month?

You do not have to phrase these exactly. The point of a natural language assistant is that "kitna paisa hai bank mein" and "what is my bank balance" should both work.

Beyond reports: sending bills through WhatsApp

The second half of the product is the part that saves your accountant time rather than yours.

A purchase bill arrives. It might be a photo from a supplier, a PDF forwarded on WhatsApp, or a paper bill on your desk. Normally it goes into a pile, and somebody types it into Tally days later.

With the WhatsApp bot, you forward it or photograph it in the chat. The bill details are extracted automatically and recorded in AI Accountant under the Needs Review tab in the Purchase module.

Your accountant opens that tab, checks the entry, and approves it. The bill is in the books the day it arrived instead of the week it was found.

This matters for two reasons beyond convenience. Bills entered on time mean your GST input credit is claimed in the right period. And your receivables and payables numbers are only as accurate as the entries behind them, so an up-to-date purchase queue is what makes the rest of the answers trustworthy.

TallyPrime's native WhatsApp feature: what it does

TallyPrime 4.0 introduced WhatsApp document sharing, released in December 2023, built on the WhatsApp Business API through Interakt. It has been extended in later releases.

Here is what the WhatsApp integration in TallyPrime gives you.

Capability Details
Document sharing Invoices, orders, reports, and other documents can be shared with a single click.
Bulk communication Send documents to multiple customers at once, including payment reminders.
File formats Share documents in PDF, JPEG, or Excel format.
Payment collection Payment links and QR codes can be embedded directly in invoices.
Templates Use pre-approved WhatsApp message templates for invoices, reminders, and updates.
Inbox A dedicated inbox for managing incoming customer messages.
Shortcut Press Ctrl + Alt + W to share a document directly from within TallyPrime.
Access control User roles determine who can send documents, which reports and vouchers can be shared, and which business numbers are used.

This is genuinely useful if your problem is customer communication. When you share an invoice on WhatsApp from Tally it beats emailing a PDF that nobody opens, and payment reminders on WhatsApp get read.

What it does not do

The native feature moves documents outward. It has no way to answer a question you send inward.

You cannot message TallyPrime and ask what your bank balance is. You cannot ask who owes you money. You cannot forward a purchase bill to it and have the entry created. You can get Tally reports on WhatsApp only as an exported file that somebody generated for you, not as a figure you asked for. Every one of those still requires somebody to open Tally on a desktop.

Tally WhatsApp charges

This is the question most articles skip. TallyPrime with WhatsApp starts at ₹1,300 per year plus 18 percent GST for the subscription. On top of that you recharge a message wallet, with recharge packs listed from ₹2,700 plus 18 percent GST. You also need a WhatsApp Business account, though no additional software download is required, and you sign up through a Tally Partner or with your GSTIN.

So the honest cost picture is: your Tally licence, plus the WhatsApp subscription, plus per-message wallet spend that scales with how much you send.

WhatsApp TDL for TallyPrime: the third-party route

Before the native feature existed, Tally partners built WhatsApp connectivity using TDL, Tally's own customisation language. These add-ons still exist and are still sold.

A WhatsApp TDL for TallyPrime typically adds buttons inside Tally to push invoices, ledgers, outstanding statements and reminders to WhatsApp, sometimes with bulk scheduling on top.

Points worth knowing before you buy one:

  • TDL customisations are installed per company and usually need a partner to configure and maintain.
  • They can conflict with other TDLs you already run, and may need rework when you upgrade TallyPrime.
  • Most still route messages through a WhatsApp Business API provider, so you pay for messages on top of the TDL licence.
  • Like the native feature, almost all of them are outbound. They send documents. They do not answer questions.

If your Tally partner already maintains custom TDLs for you and you want bulk sending with specific formats, this route is reasonable. If you want your own numbers on demand, it does not solve the problem either.

Tally WhatsApp vs AI Accountant WhatsApp bot

Capability TallyPrime native WhatsApp WhatsApp TDL add-on AI Accountant WhatsApp bot
Share invoices with customers Yes Yes No
Bulk messaging to customers Yes Usually No
Payment links in invoices Yes Varies No
Payment reminders to customers Yes Yes No
Ask questions in natural language No No Yes
Cash and bank balance on request No No Yes
Receivables and outstanding on request No No Yes
Payables and vendor dues on request No No Yes
Sales summaries on request No No Yes
Upload a purchase bill via WhatsApp No No Yes
Reads and extracts bill data No No Yes
Proactive nudges to the owner No No Yes
Needs a WhatsApp Business account Yes Usually No
Needs a TDL or partner install No Yes No
Per-message wallet cost Yes Usually No

The two are not really competing. Native Tally WhatsApp is for talking to your customers. The AI Accountant bot is for your business talking to you. Plenty of businesses will want both.

Who gets the most out of it

Business type Where it helps most
Distributors and traders Receivables and vendor dues, checked between meetings rather than at month end.
Manufacturers Purchase bill volume handled by forwarding, and payables visibility before releasing payments.
Retail and multi-outlet Daily sales and collections without waiting for a consolidated report.
Service businesses Overdue invoices and collections, where a single delayed payment matters more.
Owners who travel The whole point. Answers on a phone, in an app already open.
Businesses with one accountant Continuity when that person is on leave, sick, or has resigned.
Finance managers Fewer interruptions, because the owner stops asking for numbers by phone.

What it costs

Three separate answers here, because the three options are priced differently.

TallyPrime with WhatsApp: a subscription from ₹1,300 per year plus 18 percent GST, and a message wallet you recharge separately. Your Tally licence and TSS are on top of that.

WhatsApp TDL add-ons: priced by the partner who builds them, usually a one-time or annual licence plus messaging costs.

AI Accountant: the WhatsApp bot is part of the AI Accountant product rather than a separately metered add-on, so there is no per-message wallet to top up. Pricing depends on your voucher volume and which modules you use, so it is worked out on a demo rather than published as a single number.

Limitations

Here is what each of these tally on whatsapp options cannot do.

TallyPrime native WhatsApp

  • Outbound only. No way to query your own data.
  • Needs a WhatsApp Business account and, for most users, a Tally Partner to set up.
  • Ongoing message cost that grows with volume.

WhatsApp TDL add-ons

  • Partner dependency for installation, changes and upgrades.
  • Can conflict with other customisations.
  • Still outbound only.

AI Accountant WhatsApp bot

  • Requires TallyPrime 6.0 or above.
  • Currently one WhatsApp user per company. Multi-user support ships in the next release.
  • It reads your books, so the quality of the answers depends on the books being current. That is what the bill upload and nudges are there to fix, but a company that has not entered anything for three months will get three-month-old answers.
  • It does not send invoices to your customers. If that is what you need, use Tally's native feature for it.

Is it secure?

Messages travel over the WhatsApp Business API, which encrypts communication between businesses and their contacts. Activation is tied to the mobile number registered in your Tally company, so a random number messaging the bot does not receive your data. Bill uploads create draft entries only, which means nothing changes in your books until a person on your team approves it.

Getting started

If your goal is sending invoices and reminders to customers, buy TallyPrime with WhatsApp from your Tally Partner and use it.

If your goal is knowing your own numbers without calling anyone, the setup is three steps and takes about ten minutes. Confirm you are on TallyPrime 6.0 or above, register your mobile in Company Details, run Sync Masters, and send "Hi" to +91 63665 75567.

Book a demo of AI Accountant and we will run it on your own Tally data so you can see your actual cash position come back in a chat rather than a slide.

Frequently asked questions

What is Tally WhatsApp integration?Tally WhatsApp integration connects TallyPrime data to WhatsApp. It takes three forms: TallyPrime's native WhatsApp feature for sharing invoices and reports with customers, third-party WhatsApp TDL add-ons from Tally partners that do broadly the same thing, and AI Accountant's WhatsApp bot, which lets a business owner ask questions in plain language and receive live figures such as cash balance, receivables and payables from their own books.

Can I use Tally on WhatsApp?Yes. TallyPrime has a built-in WhatsApp feature for sending documents to customers, and separately you can use AI Accountant's WhatsApp bot to query your Tally data by message. The two do opposite things. One pushes documents from Tally to WhatsApp for your customers, the other brings your own business numbers to you.

Does Tally support WhatsApp?Yes. TallyPrime introduced WhatsApp support in Release 4.0 in December 2023, built on the WhatsApp Business API in partnership with Interakt. It covers document sharing, bulk communication, message templates, payment links and a dedicated inbox. It does not answer questions about your business data.

How can I get Tally reports on WhatsApp?You can share a report from inside TallyPrime as a PDF, JPEG or Excel file using the native WhatsApp feature. If you want the numbers themselves rather than a file, AI Accountant's WhatsApp bot returns figures directly in the chat when you ask, without you or anyone else opening Tally.

Can I check my cash balance on WhatsApp?Yes, with AI Accountant's WhatsApp bot. Message it and ask for your cash or bank balance and it replies with the current figure from your synced Tally data. TallyPrime's native WhatsApp feature cannot do this, because it only sends documents outward to customers.

Can I check outstanding payments on WhatsApp?Yes. Ask the AI Accountant bot who owes you money, how much is outstanding, or which invoices are overdue, and it returns the receivables position from your books. You can also ask the reverse, which vendors you owe and how much, to check payables before releasing money.

Can I view sales reports on WhatsApp?Yes. You can ask AI Accountant for sales figures for a period, compare one month against another, or ask for top customers, and get the answer in the chat. With TallyPrime's native feature you can share an exported sales report as a file, but you cannot ask for a figure.

How does AI Accountant connect with Tally?AI Accountant connects directly to your TallyPrime company data and keeps it in sync. For the WhatsApp feature, you save your registered mobile number in Tally under Company Details, run Sync Masters, then send "Hi" to the AI Accountant WhatsApp bot on +91 63665 75567 to activate. It works with TallyPrime 6.0 and above, and self-onboarding from August 2026 automates these steps.

Is WhatsApp integration available in TallyPrime?Yes. WhatsApp integration in TallyPrime is available as a paid add-on to your licence. It starts at ₹1,300 per year plus GST, requires a WhatsApp Business account, and is set up through a Tally Partner or by signing up with your GSTIN. Message sending is funded through a wallet you recharge.

Can I upload invoices through WhatsApp?Yes, with AI Accountant. Photograph a purchase bill or forward one to the bot and the bill details are extracted automatically and recorded under the Needs Review tab in the Purchase module, for your accountant to check and approve before the entry reaches your books. TallyPrime's native WhatsApp feature does not accept incoming documents this way.

How do I share an invoice on WhatsApp from Tally?Use TallyPrime's native WhatsApp feature. Sign up for a WhatsApp Business account through the onboarding flow, add the registered business WhatsApp number in TallyPrime, then share a voucher or report using Ctrl + Alt + W. You can send to one or many recipients using pre-approved templates, and embed a payment link or QR code in the invoice.

What is WhatsApp TDL for TallyPrime?A WhatsApp TDL is a customisation written in Tally Definition Language that adds WhatsApp sending options inside TallyPrime, usually built and sold by a Tally partner. These existed before the native feature and are still used for bulk sending and specific formats. They need partner installation, can conflict with other TDLs, and typically still bill per message.

What are Tally WhatsApp charges?TallyPrime with WhatsApp starts at ₹1,300 per year plus 18 percent GST, with message wallet recharges listed from ₹2,700 plus 18 percent GST. These are separate from your TallyPrime licence and TSS. WhatsApp TDL add-ons are priced by the partner. AI Accountant's WhatsApp bot is included in the product rather than metered per message.

Is Tally WhatsApp integration secure? The WhatsApp Business API encrypts messages between a business and its contacts. TallyPrime also lets you restrict which users can send documents, which reports or vouchers can be shared, and which business numbers are used. With AI Accountant, access is tied to the mobile number registered in your Tally company, and bill uploads create draft entries that need approval before they affect your books.

Does it work in real time?AI Accountant answers from your synced Tally data, so the figures reflect your books as they currently stand rather than a monthly export. The practical limit is data entry: if bills and bank entries have not been recorded, no tool can report them. That is why bill upload over WhatsApp and pending-entry nudges are part of the same feature.

Can multiple users use the WhatsApp bot?Not yet. The current release supports one WhatsApp user per company. Multi-user support is in the next release, so a business that wants the owner, the CFO and the accountant all querying simultaneously should factor that in.

Which businesses benefit most from Tally WhatsApp integration?Businesses running TallyPrime where the owner is not the person entering data. Distributors and traders watching receivables, manufacturers handling high purchase bill volume, retailers tracking daily sales, and any business dependent on a single accountant for its numbers. Companies that mainly need to send invoices and reminders to customers are better served by TallyPrime's native feature.

Is AI Accountant better than Tally's native WhatsApp feature? They solve different problems, so neither replaces the other. TallyPrime's native WhatsApp feature is the right tool for sending invoices, reports and payment reminders to customers. AI Accountant's WhatsApp bot is the right tool for an owner who wants cash, receivables, payables and sales figures on request, and who wants to send purchase bills into the books by forwarding them. Many businesses run both.
