# Masters and mapping

> How customers, vendors, stock items, ledgers, and godowns flow from Tally into AI Accountant, and what to do when one is missing.

AI Accountant does not keep a separate set of masters. Parties, items, ledgers, and godowns come from your Tally company, and every entry you create points at masters Tally already recognises. This is why the dropdowns show what they show.

## What comes from Tally

| Master | Where it appears | What it controls |
| -------------------------- | --------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Customers | Customer Name on a sales invoice | The party ledger on the Tally sales voucher, plus billing address, shipping address, GST treatment, GSTIN, and place of supply. |
| Vendors | Vendor Name on a purchase bill | The party ledger on the Tally purchase voucher, plus address, GST treatment, GSTIN, state, and place of supply. |
| Sales and purchase ledgers | Sales Ledger, Purchase Ledger | Which revenue or purchase account the entry posts to, for example Sales Local, Purchase Interstate. |
| Expense ledgers | Ledger Details on an expense bill | Which expense account the bill posts to, for example Rent, Courier Charges. |
| Stock items | Item on a line row | The inventory item, its rate from the master, and its tax rate. |
| Godowns / locations | Godown / Location on a line row | Which godown stock moves out of or into. |

## Autofill on selection

Selecting the party fills in the address block, GST treatment, GSTIN, and place of supply from the master. Selecting a stock item pulls in its rate and tax rate.

To change a value for one entry only, click the pencil icon next to the field. The entry changes, the Tally master does not.

## When a master is missing

If the party, item, or ledger you need is not in the dropdown, it does not exist in the synced masters yet.

1. Add it in the relevant module in AI Accountant (Customers, Vendors, Items), or create it in Tally and sync.
2. Reopen the entry form.
3. Select it from the dropdown.

## Godowns

Tally needs to know which godown stock is moving out of or into.

* With one godown configured, the field fills in on its own.
* With more than one, the field is mandatory.
* If the field is blank and will not fill, the item usually has no godown mapped in Tally.

## Multiple GST registrations

If your company is registered in more than one state, the **GST Registration** field at the top of an entry decides which branch the entry is billed from or recorded under. Set it before filling in the rest, because place of supply and tax treatment follow from it.
